Bruschi Reveals Belichick’s Magic Media Poition

Bill: Tedy I'm giving you my magic media potion, you can't tell ANYONE! Tedy: Oh...I won't!

Tedy Bruschi was a helluva linebacker for the New England Patriots for 13-years. He won 3 Super Bowls and received numerous awards, but now…he is no longer getting paid by them. Instead he is getting a fat check cut out by ESPN a.k.a the Mothership.

So while doing his normal spot as an anchor on NFL LIVE, Bruschi spilled the beans on his former coach, Bill Belichick’s four magic “rules” for interacting with the media.

1. Speak for yourself. “That’s something Coach Belichick always said — ‘Don’t worry about anyone elses’ situation, on another team or your team, always think about your job, doing your job, and commenting on that.”

2. Never talk about injuries. “Never let them know if you’re hurt or not hurt.”

3. Pour on the perfume. “This is compliments. You want to spray that perfume on your opponent on Wednesday all the way through Saturday, and then get the job done on Sunday.”

4. Fall back on cliches. “When in doubt, use the old safe cliche. You love those — ’100 percent’, ‘one day at a time.’”

(S/O to Media Bistro for the list)

Wait so you mean to tell me a Bill Belichick ran team coward away, and wasn’t genuine with all of their compliments to opposing teams? I DON’T BELIEVE THAT FOR ONE SECOND (kidding)…

Here I was thinking this list would look something like this….

  1. Cheat, and if that doesn’t work…cheat again (Even if it means on your wife)
  2. If you get hit and you don’t like it, complain (Especially if you name is Tommy)
  3. Out douche everyone on the field…don’t be yourself, just be as lame and stiff as a board as I am.
  4. Make sure you don’t look at the cameras.

No shit Bill Belichick is a good coach, probably the best X’s-and-O’s guy in football, but the guy maybe the biggest stiff out there. Personally, give me a guy like Mike Smith, Mike Tomlin, Rex Ryan (duh), John Harbaugh, and Raheem Morris in terms of getting everything out of a player. Imagine Bill coaching in the 70′s-80′s-or 90′s when they didn’t have such low key cameras (or cameras at all) I don’t think he’d be half as successful.

All in all, I’m guessing this press conference didn’t exactly follow your wonderful 4-step process, huh Bill?
